Tutoring

Welcome to JAK of All Trades Tutoring! In case we haven’t met before, allow me to introduce myself. I am Jakini Auset Kauba, a trained tutor with fifteen years of experience. Of the 11 places I’ve lived within North Carolina alone, the place I feel most at home is the classroom. Though I have an interest in all things education, I understand how difficult courses can be; especially when we stress over a GPA knowing that we are “never going to see this again”. Whether you're trying to survive a class or master a subject, let's develop your understanding to a level that you can regain your autonomy. Allow me to relieve that stress so that you can focus your energy on what really matters!

Consultation
As a first generation college student (and also the first of many things in my family) who has now earned four degrees across the fields of Biology, Counseling, and Mathematics, it is of the utmost importance that I do all that I can to share what I have learned with others. My focus is not to highlight my successes and the many wins throughout my career, but to provide insight into how I achieved them and the easier ways of navigation that I discovered after the fact.
I see our academic institutions beyond the scope of coursework, exams, and research. I understand the impact of not having proper guidance or the expectation of a "baseline/foundational" sense of education. I know what it means to show up READY and EAGER to learn, but having no idea where to start or how to navigate unfamiliar territory. I also understand the paradox of working with well-intended people of privilege who lack the understanding of what it means to be YOU. I'm aware of the limiting experience and the exhaustion that comes with existing in spaces where people want to understand the scientist in you and nothing more.

Throughout my journey, I have found people and spaces of safety that I believe (in my own subjective way) could impact the trajectory of others' career paths without the hurdles, ditches, and bootcamp-level challenges that I endured. If my perspective interests you, please reach out so that we can start the conversation on furthering your future.
